Opening, Closing, and Reviewing Shifts
Cover Shift History (filter by status/date, open with starting cash, close with ending cash and notes), Shift Detail (sales/expenses/cash reconciliation, cash-in/cash-out transactions, queue/print the shift closing report), and the web Close Shift Wizard (denomination counts, expected vs counted variance, variance reason required over 1.00, manager override over threshold). Permissions: View Shifts, Open/Close Shift, Manager Override.
Cash Register Sessions and Denominations
Document the Cashier Widget: open a register session with opening float (syncs to shift), record cash-in/cash-out/safe-drop with reasons (validated against expected cash), and close by counting denominations into pending_approval. Cover Denominations management (active/inactive values per restaurant/branch, required before closing) and Cash Register Settings (force-open after login for selected roles). Permissions: Open Cash Register, Manage Cash Denominations, Manage Cash Register Settings.
Cash Approvals, Dashboard, and Register Reports
Cover Cash Register Approvals (review pending_approval sessions, filter by branch/date/cashier, approve or reject with reason), the Register Dashboard (today’s cash sales/safe drops, discrepancy counts, averages, largest cash-out), and Reports (X/Z/Discrepancy/Cash Ledger/Cash In-Out with thermal/browser print and CSV/Excel export). Permissions: Approve Cash Register, View Cash Register Reports.
